Children’s teeth are easier to move than adults as their jaws are more malleable. However, having orthodontic treatment isn’t something children and teens tend to enjoy. Braces and aligners are more of an inconvenience than anything else – or at least they are perceived to be.
At Angle House Orthodontics, we have a range of treatment options to ensure children and teens have an enjoyable experience as we straighten their teeth. And this includes any preparatory work we need to undertake, usually in the form of removable braces.
Early orthodontic consultations
Here in the UK, the British Orthodontic Society recommends children have an orthodontic consultation between the ages of seven and 11. During this time in a child’s growth, some of the baby teeth have been lost and adult teeth are starting to appear. This gives our specialist orthodontists a chance to assess your child’s teeth to determine the extent of treatment that may be required in the future (if at all).
While orthodontic treatment in the traditional sense is very rarely started at this young age, we may recommend some treatment to prepare your child for orthodontic treatment. This preparatory treatment can also reduce the extent of treatment required later.
